After you have cooked a delicious meal, and everyone is done eating, what do you do with the food that is left over? A lot of people put their food in plastic bags or plastic tupperware. I'd like to offer some alternatives, that are both healthier and eco-friendly. There are a ton of options, and most of them are glass. Easy to clean in the dishwasher, able to go from fridge to oven or microwave, using glass is a great alternative to plastic.
Short wide-mouth jars are great for making/serving dipping sauces and storing small amounts of dinner leftovers. These are one of my favorite options when I'm putting away food after a meal. Jars and lids can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning!
From the Amazon description:Quart-sized jars are my "go-to" for just about everything. They are useful for so many things. Putting leftover food away, or when I want to get some drinking water, iced tea, lemonade, etc. I have a few out in the garage full of screws and nails, and there are a few around the house with "rooting" plant cuttings in them. Jars and lids can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning!
From the Amazon description:I love these jars for their "old-time" look. They use the old-school lever-latch system, and have a glass top with a silicon gasket to seal them. Jars and lids can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning! Great for storing dry pasta, cereal, or making pickles. A tried and true method that's been around since the covered wagon era.
From the Amazon description:These are really large! A little over one gallon, they really hold a lot of... "stuff". And they look great, with an "old-time" pioneer feel. From the Amazon description:I love Pyrex. Hands down, one of the most useful (and used) dishes in my kitchen. I pull out a couple of these, load them up with spaghetti and meatballs, add some cheese on top, and put them in the oven. When everyone is done eating, I snap the lids on them and they go directly into the fridge. It saves a lot on washing dishes. The next day I can put them in the oven again, or nuke them in the microwave, and boom! Another meal served!
From the Amazon description:Two of these are perfect for a large package of chicken (legs or breasts). I usually season and marinate the chicken right in the dish overnight in the fridge, then put them in the oven the next day. Normally they go back in the fridge after cooking and cooling, and my family has snacks and easy meals for the next week. It saves a lot on washing dishes! When it's mealtime again I can put them in the oven again, or nuke them in the microwave, and boom! Another meal served! Makes it easy to feed the kids.
From the Amazon description:I use the round ones mostly for leftovers, but you can easily put them in the oven to bake... just about anything. I suggest cake, pies... whatever! If your family doesn't eat it all, just pop the lids on and put it in the fridge. It saves a lot on washing dishes.
From the Amazon description:This set is nice because they stack, which saves a lot of space in the cupboard. Like the other options I've listed, they come with lids. And yes... the lids are plastic. But at least your food is in glass, and the lids just keep the air out (or in? LOL). Able to go from the oven to the fridge (with some cooling-off time) these glass dishes save time and effort.
