Quick note: I'm just starting up this site. There are a few sections that I'm still filling out, and all of it will grow with time. I will be adding images/artwork/photos as I am able to create them. I add to the site on a weekly basis. Please check back again, when you have time. Thank you.
This website is dedicated to finding quality products that use the least amount of plastic. Glass, stainless steel, aluminum - choose materials that are healthier for you, and the planet we all live on.
I will be providing real-life reviews and testing results from products we use in our own household, as well as recommendations from friends and family.
Beyond being just another review site, you will also find fun ideas and projects you can do with all the unavoidable plastic items that you may have accumulated around your house.
You'll also find easy recipes for delicious meals and food preservation. Twice-baked spaghetti, homemade jerky, fruit leather, turkey bone broth, and more!
The amount of plastic waste we all produce is alarming. Dump sites are filling up with it, people are dumping it in rivers, and tons of plastic is ending up in the ocean and covering our river-front beaches. Every campsite I've been to in the last few years has plastic bottles and beer cans hiding in the bushes. It's a sad situation. I invite you to learn more about this problem.
It's up to each of us individually, all around the world, to make different choices when purchasing products, and to responsibly dispose of the plastic we can't avoid. Reduce/Recycle/Reuse.
A good place to start is parties and picnics. These gatherings often produce large amounts of plastic trash. There are good alternatives to plastic and you will find them here.
When choosing food storage containers, I always try to buy glass. Canning jars and Pyrex-style containers are a great alternative to plastic for storing leftovers. I especially like the square or rectangle Pyrex dishes because you can bake casseroles, meatloaf, chicken, and many other items in them. When dinner is over, simply snap the lid on them and put them into the fridge. No extra dishes to wash!
I consider canning jars to be the unsung heroes of food storage. I get the quart-size wide-mouth jars and put everything from left-over soup, spaghetti, and even baked potatoes in them. And because they stand upright they take up less space in the fridge than flat dishes or tupperware.
One of my favorite kitchen appliances is our electric water boiler kettle. It doesn't take up much space on the counter and is so very convenient to make tea or coffee, or even Ramen-style noodle soup.
When our old water boiler died, I started shopping for a new one and was disappointed to find so many water boilers are now made entirely out of plastic, or have plastic internal parts. Boiling water in a plastic container just didn't seem like a healthy option for me and my family. And... I found that it can be quite difficult to find one made of stainless steel without glued-in plastic water meters or other "fancy" things that I find unwanted and unnecessary.
These are really large! A little over one gallon, they really hold a lot of... "stuff". And they look great, with an "old-time" pioneer feel. They use the old-school lever-latch system, and have a glass top with a silicon gasket to seal them. Jars and lids can go in the dishwasher for easy cleaning! Great for storing dry pasta, cereal, or making pickles. A tried and true method that's been around since the covered wagon era.
From the Amazon description:Great for cutting veggies and meat, putting hot dishes on, and as a serving tray.
